I’m Dennis Mitton. I am a coffeeist (doctors recommend only decaf these days), a scientist, a writer, a father, and a husband. I am, sadly, no longer a son. I have been writing for most of my life. The first thing I remember writing was a twenty-page story about Johnny. I was about eight. He was a Twainish kind of guy with a straw hat and overalls.  He lived on a farm and learned how to work on his dad’s tractor. By the time he was twenty, he stormed the world as the champion drag racer! Shows where my eight- year-old brain was. I loved reading, football, and fast cars.

I  write here mostly about how to best navigate through life. How to make a good decision. How to avoid the drama. What is important. What is not. How do we know? I’m also an uber evolutionist and a working scientist. I’m in love with fiction. I love how, in fiction, we can catch a glimpse of secrets about human nature not easily parsed by logic. At least, that’s what I focus my fiction writing on.

I flatter myself and say that I have the da Vinci Syndrome: I’m fascinated with almost everything. I have two over-riding passions, though.  One is science and especially evolution. The other is The Good Life, which for me, includes lots of books, fitness and hobbies, lifelong learning and improvement, and my wife’s head on my shoulder. Faith, too, and a mindful wondering about hiw it all works.

I’m a proven breeder with seven children.  My wife makes me a better human being. I run a slow 5k and am addicted to collecting tiny bits of glued paper used to deliver mail. I am a Seattlite who is lost in heat-soaked South Carolina. I stop by Starbucks almost any time I can.

My name spelled backward is ‘sinned’. I always think this is pretty funny.

Magnolia buds. Aren’t they beautiful? How often do we miss this kind of beauty by not even looking?

I leave the vodka to other writers looking for their muse. All I  need is another cuppa Starbucks. I go for the black decaf. Two bucks?
